I'm looking for EPUB format (preferred Nook file type) novels without DRM so I can share them between my various electronic devices. I don't necessarily need free, but I do want prices that are reasonable for ebooks (basically, cheap enough so that I'm not missing out on the used bookstore resale value of a dead tree novel if I decide it's not good enough to keep). With books from major publishing houses, I have gotten quite good at sifting through them and finding books that are far above the average. A lot of this involves reading reviews and evaluating the taste of the reviewers based on how they talk about the book; sometimes a negative review means it's going to be a good book, or vice versa.

Unfortunately, independently published books are much more difficult to evaluate before purchase, in large part because of the fact nobody's ever heard of them (except for people who hit the big time with major publishers then went independent). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find good independent ebooks, or at least some recommendations that stack up against the great authors?

'Great authors' e.g. Windows x64 driver download. William Gibson, Maragaret Atwood, George Orwell, Neil Gaiman, Kathe Koja, Neal Stephenson, Philip K. Dick, Douglas Adams, Tom Stoppard, and Arthur Miller, to give a sense of my taste.

(I'm aware of the bookdownloads subreddit, but it moves pretty slowly. It doesn't really guarantee any level of quality either, but at least they're free so I can try before I buy.) • • • • •. Smashwords is pretty good, but there are a lot of self-published authors who have give up on posting books through them. For all the hours they were spending on formatting, their sales through Barnes and noble, sony, kobo, amounted to only a tiny, tiny percentage of their Amazon sales. I've found that Amazon has the best selection of self-published books, plus their reviews help a lot at sorting them out. I have a sony reader, so I buy the books from amazon, add them to Calibre, convert them to epub, and then send them to my ereader.

The only slightly bothersome aspect is finding the right kindle file on my hard drive. And that's not really a big deal. Regarding drm, I can't think of any self-published book I've run across that's had drm, and even most of the books from big publishers are drm free these days. For Amazon, just start browing the sub-genres, and checking the 'bestselling' and 'most popular' lists.

(You have the choice to organize them that way.) Basically anything less than $6 or $7, (especially $4.99 or under) is all self-published. Barnes and Noble is another story. They really don't do a good job of supporting self published books.
