I think that It was designed more for pattern flying and aerobatics that the pattern planes do. They used 1.40 to 1.60 size glow engines in the planes. The planes evolved from the earlier.60 size pattern planes that they call classic pattern today. Since it has a 80 inch wingspan it can qualify for the IMAA giant size sport plane class too.

But way back in the day, the,60 pattern planes were all 120 mph rockets and they zipped around fast. The bigger pattern planes can still seem to fly fast though, but they are slower. Basically at a contest you do a series of maneuvers, loops, rolls, etc and you get judged and graded for it. Anyway they are nice planes. The planes fly with neutral handling.

When you do a turn for example and you give it some aileron, the plane stays in the turn and won't automatically come out of it. You have to give it some opposite aileron to straighten it back out. Also the large side area helps to do knife edges and helps make four and eight point rolls more level too. The rudder is full length to help hold knife edge maneuvers too. I flew one a long time ago and found it to be a pretty good plane.

But it depends on your flying skills too. I have some planes that I land pretty hot anyway, but I don't remember the Ultra Sport landing all that fast. But then I got used to it. I used a MDS 1.48 engine in mine at the time. Here I am flying one of my sport pattern planes. You can go to the end of the video to get a idea as to how fast they land.

You actually fly them in for a landing. There may or may not be much of a flare on the landing per se. (10 min 7 sec).

That plane brings back memories for me, good and not so good. Late in high school and a few years after I got my best friend into the hobby and we flew and built together. We were always doing something with the hobby, or some other delinquent activities. Jason- purchased this kit along with a hot motor a Moki 1.8 got the retracts and all the goodies. I met my wife to be, moved away, and Jason and I drifted apart. Got married, which halted the hobby for me.
